Langold Country Park Nottinghamshire
The name Langolde -or- Langold is derived from; either - Langhalt, meaning Long Wood, Or Langhald , meaning Long Shelter. A settlement was recorded at Langolde (as it is written on early maps). As early as 1246. In the 14th Century. Langold was one of the many places, together with Wallingwells, Letwell, Firbeck , Dinnington & Tickhill, (present day spellings) in the estates of the Baron Seagrave. Langold Country Park covers around 300 acres of land, which includes woodland, 2 large lakes, wildlife meadows, walkways, and areas of recreation. It's a park steeped in history with important wildlife habitat areas. The main lake is man-made due to the mining industry in the late 19th century. |
