Hair Removal For Men
Women are not alone these days when it comes to wanting a reliable form of hair removal. Now, hair removal for men is becoming a big business as men also want to be able to get rid of excess hair. Men have got a tougher job then women when it comes to excess hair as they naturally grow course hair on their legs, arms, chest, and sometimes, even on their backs. Hair removal in men has long been associated with bodybuilders who like to show a smooth physique. But nowadays the average man in the street may want to have a smooth, hair free body as well. When it comes to looking into removing the hair many men want to know which the best way is. Well, any hair removal technique that is used by women is suitable for a man (just watch out if you use Depilatories (hair removing creams) as some of them smell distinctly feminine). The main temporary methods are: Shaving: shaving or trimming is done manually or with electric shavers. Depilatories: these are creams which chemically dissolve the hair. Friction: rough surfaces are used to buff away the hair. Plucking: hairs are plucked or pulled out by the roots normally using tweezers. Waxing: a hot or cold layer of wax is applied and then removed with porous strips. Sugaring: similar to waxing but a sticky paste is used. Epilators: a device that grasps the hair and pulls it out by the root. Threading: this is an age-old method which is now widely used in Asia and the Middle East. This involves using a strand of cotton thread which is twisted and pulled along unwanted hair, lifting hair directly from the follicle. Permanent methods include: Electrolysis: in electrolysis a thin metal probe (approximately the diameter of a hair) is slid into a hair follicle. Electricity is then delivered to the follicle through the probe, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs. If this procedure is carried out correctly it does not puncture the skin. Laser: Light at a specified wavelength is delivered from a hand held device into the skin, where it targets dark material (which is usually the pigment in hair). Some side effects can be expected whenever a laser is used to treat the skin. These include redness, caused by heating the tissue; possibly some darkening of light-complexioned skin and lightening of dark-complexioned skin; and a risk of scarring in some patients. Sunlight should be avoided during healing also, to avoid a change in pigment. Prescription Oral Medications: Some prescription oral medications have been found to affect hair growth. If you wish to find out more please contact your doctor or physician. Hair Inhibitors: These start by slowing down the growth of hair. Over time it also changes the original dark thick, coarse hair to softer, smaller, finer, lighter hair and eventually stops the hair growth. Intense Pulsed Light: is a method of hair removal from the body involving the use of a specially constructed xenon flash lamp and focusing optics. This is also know as flash lamp; intense light source (ILS); EpiLight plus other trade names. Filtered light is delivered to the skin, where it damages the hair follicle causing the hair to fall out. |
