Acne Treatment
Acne is the most common skin disorder known today. In fact, in the USA alone it is said that almost 60 million people suffer from it at any one time. The number one cause of acne is the production of sex hormones, known as androgen, which begins at puberty. This is why majority of acne sufferers are adolescents and teens. Hormones are also responsible for acne flare-ups during menstruation and pregnancy. The usual treatment prescribed for mild cases of acne is topical medicine. The topical treatment is applied externally, directly on the affected skin surface or simply on each pimple. But, there are things that you can do daily to lessen acne. Wash your face twice a day (three times at most) with gentle and un-perfumed cleansers. Avoid using soaps as they contain harsh chemicals and ingredients that can damage your skin and make the acne worse. I know it’s hard but avoid the temptation to pick and squeeze your acne. But, this can send the infection deeper into the skin which can cause severe scarring. Tea tree oil is a natural antibiotic and antibacterial agent and has a drying effect on the skin. It keeps the bacteria at bay along which decreases facial oiliness. For mild to moderate acne, you can use over- the- counter topical ointments, solutions, lotions or gels that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or azelaic acid. Avoid touching your face. Your hands contain a lot of bacteria that can cause acne flare-ups. It is probably one of the most difficult things to avoid since much of the hand to face contact throughout the day we are unconscious of. Make it a habit to avoid hand contact and be conscious of it during the day to avoid bacteria. These measures are normally only effective if your acne is mild or moderate. If you have severe acne it is best to see your doctor or a dermatologist for treatment.
